Please remember: It's not a problem with _ALL_ notebooks, but with a
specific set of notebooks (IBM Thinkpad T42/T43) which have a slightly
different FDC as it seems.

On all other Notebooks around here I have no problems with blkid.
I don't have this problem on HP tc5735's, I do just have it on the
T-series notebookes (when floppy=thinkpad is not part of the KCL) and
on this specific VIA EPICA2 thinclient model (no KCL parameter availble
to work around that).

Inserted CDs get detected on my desktop and on my thinclient the same
way (using GNU blkid and bb blkid), but not all of them, actually this
is what I see:

Busybox blkid:

tuxx at vi-edv003:~/busybox/busybox-1.13.2$ ./busybox blkid
/dev/sda5: UUID="f011e6e2-dd5c-4c6c-9eea-c5b8260c0b13"
/dev/sda3: UUID="f0f957db-00e4-49c4-b53a-2560e22d7e35"

/dev/sdb1: UUID="7aec6fcd-2c69-47ed-b888-743a6961d55f"
/dev/hda: LABEL="grml 1.1"

GNU blkid:

tuxx at vi-edv003:~/busybox/busybox-1.13.2$ /sbin/blkid
/dev/sda1: LABEL="test" UUID="83048dcd-6883-49a6-bb7a-17d127befdc1"

/dev/sdb1: UUID="7aec6fcd-2c69-47ed-b888-743a6961d55f" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
TYPE="ext3"
/dev/hda: LABEL="grml 1.1" TYPE="iso9660"
/dev/hdb: LABEL="Disk4" TYPE="iso9660"
/dev/sda3: UUID="f0f957db-00e4-49c4-b53a-2560e22d7e35" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sda5: UUID="f011e6e2-dd5c-4c6c-9eea-c5b8260c0b13" SEC_TYPE="ext2"

/dev/sda6: UUID="37f487cd-2c55-40c0-a069-1636545261b4" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sdc1: UUID="c44f33f4-bd58-4405-9377-5a812c220cce" TYPE="ext2"
tuxx at vi-edv003:~/busybox/busybox-1.13.2$

So as you can see, two devices are missing in busybox blkid on my
desktop system:

hdb (second CD drive) and sdc1 (first partition of an USB memory stick).

> IMHO you are right, it seems a problem with your local configuration.

Well, I'd say no. Yes, it is a problem that the CMOS was configured
badly, but I expect blkid to work even when things are configured
wrong and OTOH, what about the T-series notebooks then? CMOS is
configured correctly there (no floppy) but without this specific KCL
parameter, blkid times out there.
