Sorry for not being of much help, I was out yesterday. But you seem to have 
figured it out yourself. I'm not using glibc either, but uclibc snapshot 
version 2 Jan 07. I tried your patch and it works. Also the original problem 
I had with 1.3.1 (syslog messages also printed to console) is gone.
