no init found

I am having a very weird problem, I have a static linked busybox. The kernel
is 2.6.20
the boot fails saying init not found:

Failed to execute /bin/sh trying defaults
Kernel panic no init found try passing init= option to the kernel

and in the /bin directory i have busybox executable and all the liks like
sh, ls, init etc to busybox made. So i donno y this error is comin.

I evel mounted the fs again myslef using the mount loop commmand and i can
see all the executables there working fine.
