Getting stuck at the filesystem stage

NO i think its loading the kernel properly, because it says
Loading Kernel............
Loading fs.gz..............
and gets stuck here not moving off from this point.
I downloaded the newer veriosn of syslinux but that also dint help. And one
more think i shud've said before i am trying to boot from a usb disk(1 GB in
size). Does this fact come into play anywhere??

Plzz could you tell me how to add debug options to the syslinux.cfg? I tried
the documentation of syslinux for this but cudnt find much.
