Try it on one of the include files and see if the history survives.  If so, 
it's something funky about Erik's server and I'll poke him to upgrade it.  If 
not, then possibly it was something funky with my client and the upgrade to 
the new ubuntu might have fixed it.

We can still _get_ the old history by looking at the old file at correct 
commit range.  We just don't get it when we look at the new file...
