[BusyBox] Problems with the network

Hi everyone!
 
I'm new to Linux and to busybox. I'm actually working on my own boot
disks with the linux pocket guide and the busybox. I'm doing fine, till
now.
I have the problem, that I wan't to use commands like ping and ftp but I
actually have no idea how to configure my disk's for
networking. I think I need some configuration scripts. But which and how
to configure them?
 
I hope someone out there will help me!
